Swimming & Diving Passes James Madison Friday

Richmond, Va.— The University of Richmond swimming and diving team celebrated its lone home meet of the year and senior day with a 158-139 win over in-state foe James Madison. The win comes nearly 11 years to the date since the last dual victory over JMU— a 158-149 home win on Jan. 29, 2011.
The Spiders kicked off swimming events with Katelyn Pennell (Eden Prairie, Minn.), Maggie Purcell (Southampton, N.Y.), Claire O'Shaughnessy (Laurel, Md.) and Lauren Medlin (Cary, N.C.) taking first in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:49.13, while Carstyn Klosterman (Winston-Salem, N.C.), Sara Greene (Tega Cay, N.C.), Abby Fuller (Charlottesville, Va.) and Lucy Yeomans (Athens, Ga.) followed with a 4:00.26 for third.
Laura Davis (Charlotte, N.C.) took second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a 10:35.07 clocking, while Megan Carson (Apex, N.C.) followed with a 10:38.54 posting for third. Davis then went on to finish third in the 400 IM with a 4:36.19.
Purcell picked up her second win of the day and first individual when she touched at 1:52.96 in the 200 freestyle. Grace Palfreyman (Bridgewater, N.J.) followed in third with a 1:55.40. Palfreyman also took second in the 500 free with a 5:12.34, while Carson swam a 5:13.40.
Pennell doubled as a winner when she took first in the 100 back with a 57.71 posting, while Mattie Williams (Lake George, N.Y.) clocked a 58.92 for third. Pennell also took second in the 200 back with a 2:05.28.
Greene won the 100 breast with a 1:05.49 while Christina Levins (Moorestown, N.J.) came in third with a 1:06.99. She then took first in the 200 breast with a 2:20.7 clocking, while Purcell recorded a 2:21.28 for second.
O'Shaughnessy touched at 2:06.00 for first in the 200 fly before picking up the win in the 100 fly with a 57.34. Fuller followed her with a 57.35 for second.
Fuller also took home first in the 50 free when she clocked a 23.68 while Medlin added a runner-up finish with a 24.05.
Medlin then went on to win the 100 free with a 51.92, while Yeomans followed in third with a 52.36.
Richmond took home first in the 200 free relay when Fuller, Medlin, Yeomans and Purcell connected for a 1:35.46 finish.
On the boards, Emma Yeakley (Cornelius, N.C.) finished sixth from three meters with a 239.33 points and seventh on the one-meter board with 238.05.
