Spider Hockey Falls at Home to No. 25 Duke

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team scored first but fell to No. 25 Duke Blue Devils Sunday, 8-1, at Crenshaw Field.
Richmond, 5-8 on the season and 2-2 in Atlantic 10 action, heads out on the road to take on Lock Haven, Friday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. in Lock Haven, Pa.
Senior Lindsey Frank (Sarasota Springs, N.Y.) put the Spiders on the board first, tallying her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the fourth minute of action.
Duke tied it up just before the end of the first quarter at 1-all, before tallying seven more unanswered goals.
Richmond took nine shots, six in the second quarter, but were unable to get them past Duke's goalies. Duke fired off 21 shots and collected six corners.
Senior goalie Erika Latta (Midlothian, Va.) made five saves, allowing the first six goals, including two penalty strokes in 45 minutes. Sophomore Kristen Rake (Wynnewood, Pa.) took over in the fourth quarter, making two saves and allowing two goals. Junior Olivia De Cain (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) tallied her first defensive save of the season in the first quarter.
