Field Hockey Drops A-10 Decision at Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, PA – The University of Richmond dropped a 1-0 decision to Lock Haven Friday afternoon in Atlantic 10 action at Charlotte Smith Field.
Richmond, now 5-9 on the season and 2-3 in league play, will next take on Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa., Sunday at 12 p.m. on ESPN-plus.
A defensive battle from the start, the Spiders held the upper-hand in earning more corners in the first half, 3-0, but were only able to get off two shots in the second quarter.
Richmond picked up the offensive intensity in the second half, firing off seven shots in the third quarter alone, but again were thwarted in the circle by the Lock Haven defense.
Lock Haven broke the scoreless tie in the 44th minute with a penalty stroke.
Both squads finished the game with 11 shots and five corners, but Lock Haven had a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. Juniors Madi Hyatt (Fredericksburg, Va.) and Ella Hayes (Virginia Beach, Va.) and freshman Madelyn Curtis (Richmond, Va.) all registered a shot on goal for Richmond.
Richmond goalie Kristen Rake (Wynnewood, Pa.) made her first collegiate start, collecting six saves in the contest.
