Budnik hits game-winner for win over Ball State

SAN JUAN, P.R. – Addie Budnik hit a wide-open three pointer with 2.2 seconds left for to give the University of Richmond women's basketball team the 75-73 victory over Ball State Tuesday afternoon. After trading timeouts, the Spiders defense smothered the Cardinals last second scoring attempt.
Richmond, now 9-3 on the season, will take on Tarleton State Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET to close out the Puerto Rico Clasico at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente on FloSports.com.
The Spiders took a 46-34 lead into the half, paced by Ryan's 19 points, including five three-pointers. The Spiders shot over 65-percent (19-of-29) from the field in the first half. UR's offense was able to move the ball quickly for the open shot. Grace Townsend dished out seven of the squad's 13 helpers in the half. She finished with nine assists, six points, five rebounds and two steals.
Ball State flipped the script on Richmond to open the second half, holding UR to just five points and shooting under 20 percent from the field.
Richmond was down by five, 56-51, heading into the final 10 minutes. UR shook off the cold offensive third quarter and buckled down on defense. The Spiders chipped away at the Cardinals lead while only allowing 17 points and 36 percent from the field. UR knocked down four three pointers, including two more from Siobhan Ryan and the game winner by Budnik in the final quarter.
Ryan made a career-high seven three pointers to finish with a career-high 27 points to lead all scorers. Budnik finished with 13 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two assists. Rachel Ullstrom had a five-point swing over 43 seconds, hitting a three-pointer and two free throws, to put the Spiders up 72-71 with 1:35 left on the clock. Ullstrom finished with 13 points, four assists and three rebounds.
Katie Hill tallied nine points, four rebounds and three steals, while Torin Rogers chipped in five points off the bench. Sydney Boone also scored two points, dished out two assists and pulled down two rebounds.
