Women's Tennis Notches First Win Against Towson

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Richmond Spiders picked up their first win of the season Friday afternoon, defeating Towson 4-1.
Richmond (1-3) quickly took the doubles point from the Tigers (0-2) as the duo of Emily Dunbar and Sara Salemyr won 6-0, and Carly Cohen and Marta Buendia paired up for the first time for a 6-2 win.
In singles play, Cohen improved to 2-2 on the year and 2-1 at the No. 2 spot with a 6-2, 6-0 win on court 2.
Helene Heiberg and Buendia each picked up their first singles win of the season, winning 6-0, 6-0 on Court 3 and 6-0, 6-3 on Court 5, respectively.
Emily Dunbar went unfinished on Court 1, as did Sara Salemyr on Court 4.
The lone point for the Tigers came by default on court six.
"It's been a tough week hearing the sad news about Polina [Shitikova's] injury. However, we came out strong today and were determined to get the win," said Salemyr.
