Women's Lacrosse Passes Old Dominion in Season Opener

Richmond, Va. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team opened the season at Robins Stadium Saturday, taking down Old Dominion, 18-7, to earn interim head coach Anne Harrington her first victory at the helm of the Spiders' program.
Richmond took the early advantage and did not look back after Lindsey Frank (3 goals, 3 assists) put the Spiders (1-0, 0-0) on the board just 49 seconds into the game.
The Monarchs (0-1,0-0) tied things up moments later to make it 1-1, but the Spiders contingency would lay on eight more goals in the first quarter including another from Frank, three from Arden Tierney (3 goals, 2 assists), one from Sophia DiCenso (2 goals) and the first collegiate goals of Hannah Custer, Maggie Jordan and Colleen Quinn's (1 goal, 1 assist) careers.
Nicole Concannon (3 goals) added two in the second frame, while Frank scored her third to secure the hattrick. Kendall Duffy and Lauren Kingsbury (1 goal, 1 assist) each added another, and Grace Muldoon (1 goal, 2 assists) scored the first of her collegiate career.
Dicenso and Evelyn Roberts chipped in another goal apiece in the third before Concannon secured the Spiders' second hattrick performance of the game with a goal midway through the fourth.
Graduate transfer Delaney Galvin made her Richmond debut, collecting seven saves on five goals allowed, while Daniela Stelcer played the final 7:22 in net for UR.
The Spiders outperformed the Monarchs in all categories including shots (27-21), ground balls (14-8) and draw controls (16-12), while Old Dominion recorded 16 turnovers to Richmond's 13 and turned in seven more fouls than the Spiders (19-12) to bring up six free position shots and four woman-up goals. Richmond was 16-17 on clear attempts.
Defensively, the Spiders picked up 14 ground balls with Caroline Atkinson leading with three. Custer tallied three caused turnovers.
Lilly Siskind scored five of the Monarchs' seven goals and Jenna Peccia recorded six saves in the loss.
The Spiders are back at Robins Stadium Tuesday, Feb. 15 when it takes on William and Mary at 5 p.m.
