Women's Lacrosse Drops William & Mary Tuesday

Richmond, Va.— The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team jumped to 2-0 on the season Tuesday night after taking down William & Mary, 19-10, at Robins Stadium.
The Spiders (2-0, 0-0) went goal-for-goal with the Tribe (1-1, 0-0) in the first quarter, but the high-powered Richmond offense led by freshman Colleen Quinn (6 goals, 2 assists) pulled ahead in the second and never looked back, pouring on an onslaught of goals including a 6-0 run to open the second half.
Quinn made the most of her time with the ball, securing the double hat trick in as many shots while helping teammates with two assists. She scored the first goal of the game off a pass from Maggie O'Brien (2 assists) before the Tribe took its only lead of the game a third of the way through the opening frame when Belle Martire scored the first pair of her four-goal night. Arden Tierney (2 goals, 4 assists) scored off a feed from O'Brien to tie things before Evelyn Roberts scored on a feed from Lindsey Frank (2 goals, 1 assist).
Frank opened scoring in the second with a pass from Quinn, then seconds later Quinn scored again— this time with an assist from Kendall Duffy (1 goal, 1 assist). The Spiders went on a four-goal run the middle of the second when Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Hannah Custer (3 goals, 1 assist) scored two goals back-to-back with assists from Sophia DiCenso (1 goal, 1 assist) and Tierney, respectively. Frank scored one unassisted, then Quinn was assisted by Sarah Roycroft (1 goal, 2 assists) and DiCenso chipped in one more to give the Spiders a 10-6 lead at the half.
The third quarter opened with a six-goal run when Custer secured her first career hat trick with an unassisted goal followed by Marina Miller's first of the season (assisted by Quinn). Another from Quinn assisted by Roycroft came next before a solo goal from Duffy and two Arden Tierney assists (Roycrofts, Muldoon) gave UR the comfortable 17-8 lead headed into the final quarter.
Finally, Quinn put the cap on her standout night with two goals in the fourth (assists from Custer and Tierney) to seal the deal for the Spiders.
Richmond out-shot the Tribe 39-25 as Delaney Galvin made 10 stops between the pipes. W&M goalkeeper Elise Palmer made 12 saves. Defensively, DiCenso, O'Brien and Galvin recorded two caused turnovers each. Galvin led the team with four ground balls while Custer scooped three.
The Spiders are back in action Saturday when it travels to take on Liberty at 1 p.m.
