02/25/2022 | Women's Lacrosse
Richmond, Va.— Nicole Concannon scored four and Delaney Galvin made 13 saves as the University of Richmond women's lacrosse team took down #16 Stanford, 11-10, Friday afternoon at Robins Stadium.
Richmond scored the first of the game when Evelyn Roberts caught a feed from Grace Muldoon before Stanford responded less than a minute later with a goal of its own. The Cardinal scored another to take its only lead of the game shortly before the Spiders would go on a 4-0 run when Sophia DiCenso scored off a pass from Colleen Quinn and Arden Tierney chipped in another to give the Spiders a 3-2 lead after the first quarter.
Tierney found Leah Kenny for her first goal of the season and Nicole Concannon fed a pass to Lindsey Frank for her ninth of the year to open the second. The Cardinal scored another halfway through the frame to make it 5-3, then Concannon scored two more with assists from Kendall Duffy and Marina Miller before Stanford scored with seconds remaining in the half to make it 7-4 at the break.
From there, the Cardinal went on a 4-1 run, scoring three unanswered to tie the game at seven apiece before Concannon broke the Cardinal momentum with another goal to secure the hat trick.
Stanford scored with just over nine minutes left in regulation to tie the game 8-8 before three more unanswered Spiders goals.
Hannah Custer scored one off a pass from Lauren Kingsbury before Arden Tierney found Duffy in front of the crease where she hit the top shelf off a backhand shot facing the opposite direction of the cage. Finally, Muldoon found Conannon for her fourth of the day to tie her single-game career high.
Stanford scored two more in the last 70 seconds of play, but it wouldn't be enough as the horn sounded to move the Spiders to 4-0 to open the season.
The Cardinal had a 31-23 shot advantage and edged the Spiders 14-10 on draw controls.
Richmond is now 4-0 to open the season and hosts Coastal Carolina next Friday, March 4 at 1 p.m. at Robins Stadium.
