#17 Women's Lacrosse Uses Late Surge to Power Past Coastal Carolina
03/04/2022 | Women's Lacrosse
Richmond, Va.— A slow start made it 5-4 at halftime, but a 7-0 run in the second half would give the Richmond women's lacrosse team a 12-4 victory over Coastal Carolina at Robins Stadium Friday.
Arden Tierney had a career day with four assists and a goal, while Lindsey Frank scored four, Colleen Quinn added a hat trick and Sophia DiCenso and Nicole Concannon each scored two.
The Chanticleers (2-2) opened scoring with two goals within the first six minutes of play before Concannon scored one unassisted at the 6:26 mark in the first before DiCenso tied it 21 seconds later off a pass from Quinn. Concannon added another with just under two minutes left to play in the opening quarter when Lindsey Frank found her in front of the cage for the Spiders' first lead of the game.
Quinn opened the second quarter with another Spider goal after a successful feed from Concannon before two more Chanticleer goals midway through the second tied the game again.
The tie, though, would prove to be the game's last as the Spiders used a huge second half to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Before the halftime break, Marina Miller found DiCenso for her second goal of the game to kick off a seven-goal run, holding the Chanticleers scoreless though the game's final two frames.
Lindsey Frank scored one on her own for the lone goal of the third quarter before Tierney and company put the game on ice in the fourth.
Tierney found both Frank and Quinn for two goals each before Jillian Becker recorded her first points of the season with an assist to Frank. Finally, Tierney got in on the scoring action when she used an assist from Hannah Custer to grab her ninth on the year.
Delaney Galvin made 11 saves in net, while Tierney (8), Kendall Duffy (4), Miller (2) Custer (1) and Grace Muldoon (1) overpowered the Chanticleers in the draw circle, winning 16 to Coastal Carolina's four.
The #17 Spiders now head to #13 Virginia on Wednesday. Opening draw is set for 5:00 p.m.
