Lanchbury & Young Lead Men’s Lacrosse To Victory Over St. Bonaventure
03/01/2022 | Men's Lacrosse
RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond graduate attack Ryan Lanchbury (Burlington, Ontario) now sits alone atop of the all-time scoring list in Spider history after his nine-point effort in Richmond's 17-3 victory over St. Bonaventure Tuesday afternoon at Robins Stadium. The victory improves the 19th-ranked Spiders to 3-1 on the year heading into Saturday's game at No. 10 Duke.
Lanchbury and junior attack Dalton Young (Chantilly, Va.) combined for 11 goals and 16 points in the victory. The pair scored the Spiders' first six goals of the game and 10 out of their first 11 tallies on the afternoon. Lanchbury's nine points ranks third all-time in program history and third all-time in his career. He has posted two games with 12 points each in 2021 against Mercer and Bellarmine.
Lanchbury's nine points raises his career total to 234 points, surpassing former Spider Teddy Hatfield for the top spot in program history (227). He has scored 132 goals in his career, tops in program history, while adding 102 assists. He sits just one assist shy of Hatfield's helper record and two from owning all three scoring marks in program history.
Young finished the day tying his career-high with six goals, five of which came in the opening half. He has scored six goals in a game three times in his career with today's efforts joining two from 2021 (High Point, VMI). Today's effort moved his career goal total to 51 in just 21 career games. He leads the team this year with 12 goals in four games.
Their play helped the Spiders set a new single-game record with 60 shots Tuesday, surpassing the previous mark of 57 set last year against VMI. Defensively, the Spiders picked up 40 ground balls, the 10th highest total in a single game in program history.
Redshirt sophomore goalie Devin Craven (McLean, Va.) limited the Bonnies to only two goals, playing three quarters of action, while recording eight saves. Redshirt freshman Zach Vigue (Apex, N.C.) came on in relief and allowed one goal in the fourth quarter, making a career-high seven saves.
The Spiders used no theatrics Tuesday, scoring the game's first eight goals less than 25 minutes into the game – all goals from Lanchbury and Young. The Spiders extended their lead in the second half, running out to a 14-goal victory, their second 14-goal win of the year (18-4 vs. Marist).
Freshman Ryan Spilman (Owings Mill, Md.) scored his first two career goals in the fourth quarter while classmate Gavin Houghtaling (East Syracuse, N.Y.) tallied his first career goal in the win. Freshman defender Griffin Kology (Chatham, N.J.) led the way with three caused turnovers while Ray Baran (Berwyn, Pa.) added a pair.
