Sprague-Lott, Pacheco Homer In Spiders Victory Over Cornell

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond baseball team took care of business Saturday, scoring in six innings to collect a 9-2 victory over Cornell at Pitt Field.
Richmond (12-4) goes for the series sweep Sunday at Pitt Field. First pitch between the Spiders and the Big Red is set for noon on ESPN Plus.
The Spiders tallied the first run of the game on Jared Sprague-Lott's (Philadelphia, Pa.) single to center, scoring Christian Beal (Flossmoor, Ill.), who opened the game with a base hit of his own.
Cornell (2-8) answered with a run in the top of the second, taking advantage of two Richmond errors.
Dominic Toso (Philadelphia, Pa.) extended his hit-streak to 16 games in the third inning with a lead-off single to left field. He came around to score on Jake Elbeery's (North Andover, Mass.) ground out to give the Spiders a 2-1 lead.
Designated hitter in today's contest, D.J. Pacheco (Danvers, Mass.) blasted a solo home run to left field for his first collegiate home run.
The Spiders busted open the offense in the sixth inning. Johnny Hipsman (Chester, N.Y.) picked up his second hit of the day and was followed up by Pacheco lacing a double down the left field line. Hipsman scored on Beal's single to right, while Pacheco crossed the plate on Alden Mathes' (Broomall, Pa.) base hit. Beal was forced to tally the third run of the inning when Sprague-Lott got hit in a bases loaded at-bat.
Beal legged out a double in the seventh inning for his third hit of the day and picked up his second RBI when Pacheco scored from second and push the Spiders lead to 7-2.
Sprague-Lott wrapped up the Spiders scoring in the eighth inning with a two-run home run. He finished the day going 3-for-4 with four RBI and was hit by a pitch.
Spider starter Brock Weirather (Polk City, Fla.) worked quickly against Cornell batters. Weirather, moving to 3-0 on the season, matched his season-high with six strikeouts while allowing two runs, one earned, over seven hits, a walk and a hit batter in 6.2 innings of work.
Reliever Brenden Argomaniz (Claremont, Calf.) finished out the game, allowing one hit, a hit batter and two walks and collected three strikeouts in 2.1 innings.
