Richmond, Va.— The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team put together its highest offensive output of the season Sunday, passing Saint Joseph's, 21-7, at Robins Stadium.
Sophia DiCenso lead the team with four goals and an assist, Grace Muldoon and Nicole Concannon (2 assists) scored hat tricks while Colleen Quinn, Arden Tierney (1 assist) Lindsey Frank, and Sarah Roycroft scored two each and Hannah Custer, Kendall Duffy and Marina Miller chipped in one.
Cresting the 20-goal mark for the first time this season, seven goals were scored by freshmen as the Spiders (10-2, 3-0) handed Saint Joseph's (7-5, 2-1) its first conference loss of the season.
Delaney Galvin recorded eight saves on 25 shots faced to earn the win while Saint Joseph's keeper Jorde Concordia recorded an identical eight on Richmond's 37 shots.
The Spiders came out hard and didn't look back as the team jumped to a 5-13 halftime lead and held the Hawks to just two goals over the final half hour of play.
Frank recorded two caused turnovers while Maggie O'Brien and Jax Donahue added one more apiece to help Richmond's defensive unit hold the Atlatnic 10 conference's leading scorer, Lauren Figura, to just two goals. DiCenso and O'Brien led the Spiders with three ground balls each.
The win comes as a statement after Saint Joseph's knocked off Richmond, 19-8, in the opening round of the Atlantic 10 tournament last spring. The Spiders will now head down the road to VCU before traveling north to play the only other team undefeated in conference and 2022 tournament hosts, UMass.
