Field Hockey Drops Tough Decision at Old Dominion

NORFOLK, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision against Old Dominion Sunday at L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
Richmond, now 7-7 on the season, jumps back into Atlantic 10 Conference action on the road Friday when the squad heads to Amherst, Mass., to face nationally ranked UMass at 3 PM. UR will close out the road trip facing Yale Sunday at noon in New Haven, Conn.
The Spiders and Monarchs had a tough back-and-forth battle in the opening quarter. It was ODU offense that broke through first, scoring in the 14th minute of action.
Spider goalkeeper Kristen Rake tallied three of her seven saves in the first quarter. Olivia De Cain picked up her first defensive save of the season in the second quarter.
ODU added two goals in the second quarter, one off a penalty corner play in the 22nd minute and the other 45 seconds before the half.
Richmond dominated possession in the third quarter but didn't come up with a shot on frame or a corner.
The Monarchs converted a penalty stroke in the 49th minute for their fourth goal.
