
#20 Spiders Open Season with Promising Victory

Charlotte, NC. - The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team put together an impressive performance to open their season on Saturday in Charlotte, NC, taking down the Royals of Queens University of Charlotte, 13-6.Â
Six different Spiders found the back of the cage as they opened up their season with the ability to spread the scoring game consistently. Offense for the Spiders remained even through the majority of the game as the team found themselves up 6-3 at halftime. Richmond was able to hold a lead for the entirety of the afternoon, allowing the closest score to be 4-3 with 5:54 left in the first half.Â
Sophomore Colleen Quinn put on a top-notch performance for the Spiders in Charlotte as she knocked in five goals with only seven shots.Â
Junior Ali Susskind shot perfect for Richmond, taking three shots and making them all for goals.Â
Lindsey Frank added two goals to the total, and Sophia DiCenso, Hannah Custer and Sarah Roycroft each chipped in one.Â
The Spiders (1-0, 0-0) for the most part controlled possession throughout the game, scooping 21 ground balls and winning 13 draw controls compared to the Royals' ten. Arden Tierney dominated the draw circle with 9 draw controls on the matchup.Â
Tierney dished out a game-high two assists, while Marymargaret Quinn, Kendall Duffy, Grace Muldoon and Sarah Roycroft had one each.Â
In net, Daniela Stelcer recorded 7 saves to earn the win while the Royals used two keepers (10 total saves) in the loss.Â
The Spiders look to carry this positive momentum into their upcoming game on the road against William & Mary on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Williamsburg.
