Explosive First Quarter Lifts Spiders Past William & Mary

Williamsburg, Va. – The University of Richmond Women's Lacrosse team poured on 11 goals in the first quarter and 11 different Spiders found the back of the cage as the team took down William & Mary 20-4 Wednesday night.
Arden Tierney led the attack with three goals and four assists on six shots, while Ali Susskind was just as efficient, picking up three goals on three shots.
Tierney helped lead the offense with her nine draw controls as six more Spiders picked up multi-point nights.
Sophia DiCenso led the Spiders' transition offense with a pair of goals, two ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover. Lindsey Frank picked up two goals and an assist as well as two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Colleen Quinn and Grace Muldoon each picked up two more goals and an assist while Juliana Stanley scored her first two career goals from the free position.
Maggie Jordan, Marymargaret Quinn and Megan Rice (first career goal) all chipped in goals while Hannah Custer and Kendall Duffy added assists on the night.
Richmond came out to a quick start with a five-goal lead just midway through the first quarter. A running clock began when the Spiders picked up its 10 goal lead at the 4:15 mark that would go on for the rest of the game.
Richmond kept the ball out of its defensive end thanks to three caused turnovers and five ground balls by Maggie O'Brien. Jax Donohue followed with four ground balls and a caused turnover. Daniela Stelcer recorded three saves for the Spiders.
Up next, Richmond returns to Robins Stadium for its home opener against Liberty. Opening draw is set for 3:00 Saturday.
