
Spiders Stay Rolling With Win vs Liberty

RICHMOND, Va. — Three games into the 2023 season, and Richmond Women's Lacrosse is still looking for its first test. The Spiders posted their third straight lopsided win Saturday, defeating Liberty 16-8 at Robins Stadium.
Senior Lindsey Frank led Richmond with six goals, tying her career high. Her assist at the 13:11 mark of the first quarter, was her 150th career point with the Spiders.
The Spiders got all the offense they would need in the first half, outscoring Liberty 6-1 in the first quarter and 6-2 in the second to take a 12-3 advantage at halftime. After Liberty scored its first goal of the game to tie the score at 1, Richmond scored the game's next nine goals to take control.
Liberty held UR to one goal in the third period while scoring twice. Each team scored three times in the final quarter.
Richmond has now outscored its three opponents this season, Queens, William & Mary, and Liberty, by a combined score of 49-18.
Sophomore Colleen Quinn scored three goals to give her 10 this season, tied with Frank for the most among Spiders.
Senior Sophie DiCenso scored twice for UR, as did senior Arden Tierney, who added a team-high four assists. Tierney leads Richmond with 15 points and 10 assists this season, eight more assists than any other Spider.
Frank and DiCenso led the Spiders with four ground balls apiece, part of a 25-9 ground balls advantage for Richmond over Liberty.
Senior Daniela Stelcer made a season-high eight saves in goal for the Spiders, who have held their first three opponents to single-digit goals for just the second time since 2000 (also 2020).
The Spiders are 3-0 for the second straight year and third time in the last four seasons and have now won 14 straight games at Robins Stadium, a streak that dates back to 2021.
Up next for Richmond is a matchup with Howard on Sunday, February 26 in Washington, D.C. The game will begin 1 PM.
