Baseball Falls at No. 20 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Richmond Baseball team fell at No. 20 Alabama 13-1 Saturday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
The final game of the series is set for a 1 p.m. eastern first pitch Sunday, airing on SEC Network Plus.
The Spiders (0-2) fell behind early as the Crimson Tide put up 13 runs in the first five innings. Richmond starter Josh Willitts (0-1) took the loss, allowing eight runs on eight hits, two walks and three strikeouts in two and two-thirds of an inning. Jake Michal tossed two and a third of an inning allowing five runs on four hits, three walks, a hit batter and one strikeout.
Harrison Clifton tossed two scoreless innings, scattering three hits, a walk and a strikeout for the Spiders. Jimmy Starnes, making his Richmond debut, used seven pitches to get out of the eighth, inducing a double play to erase a leadoff walk and a pop up to first.
Richmond scattered seven hits and a walk, but left seven batters stranded. Jared Sprague-Lott and D.J. Pacheco both got base hits in the second, while Christian Beal singled up the middle in the third.
Johnny Hipsman got the Spiders going with a leadoff base hit in the seventh. Sprague-Lott drew a one-out walk to have runners on first and second for Jake Elbeery. Elbeery worked a full count to muscle up a single to left, scoring Hipsman from second to break up the shutout.
Jason Neff tallied a two-out base hit in the eighth but was stranded. Pinch hitter Drew Beno collected his first hit of the season with a base hit through the hole at third.
