#25 Richmond Falls at #24 UMass

Amherst, Mass. - The University of Richmond Women's Lacrosse team fell to the #24 ranked University of Massachusets with a deficit of 22-12 in the first conference matchup on the year for both programs. The Spiders fall back to a 5-2 record on the season.
Lindsey Frank and Arden Tierney both put in four goals for the Spiders on the day. Sophia DiCenso also found the back of the net for three goals. The only other scorer for Richmond was Grace Muldoon as she grabbed a goal at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The Spiders outscored UMass 4-3 in the fourth, but the fight was not enough as they never held a lead through the game.Â
At the end of the first half, Richmond was down 9-5, with promising aspirations and energy to fight back in the second. Heading into the half, Richmond still sat down at 15-8 hoping to make some changes. UMass came into the third quarter outscoring the Spiders 4-0 and gaining a 19-8 lead going into the fourth. The third quarter efforts of the Minutemen solidified the lead through the rest of the game.Â
UMass held the advantage in shots on goal (28 to Richmond's 17), ground balls (26 to Richmond's 20), clears (12-12 to Richmond's 9-10) and caused turnovers (9 to Richmond's 1). Richmond was able to successfully control the ball with 18 draw controls to UMass's 17. UMass stayed accurate on the day compared to Richmond as they went 22-34 as the Spiders went 12-26.Â
Daniela Stelcer and Emilie Bloyer shared time in cage. Stelcer allowed 9 goals and made 1 save, while Bloyer let in 13 and came up with 5 stops.Â
Richmond looks to bounce back when it faces UVA at home on Wednesday at Robins Stadium. Opening draw is set for 7pm.
