Spider Baseball Takes Series Finale Against Rider, 9-4

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Baseball squad broke through for a nine-run fourth inning to defeat the Rider Broncs, 9-4, Sunday midafternoon.
Richmond, now 7-8 on the season, is back in action for a Monday matinee to host Princeton at 2 p.m. at Pitt Field on ESPN+.
Johnny Hipsman got the fourth inning going with a base hit, extending his hit streak to nine games before scoring from first on Jared Sprague-Lott's hit and Rider miscue in left to put the Spiders on the board. Jordan Jaffe doubled in Sprague-Lott. Jake Elbeery trotted home on Mikey Kluska's sacrifice fly before both Jaffe and Kluska moved up a base on a Rider error in the outfield.
Christian Beal then doubled in Jaffe to tie the game at 4-all. After a pitching change, Alden Mathes drew a walk to load the bases for Jason Neff, who got an RBI ground ball to give the Spiders the lead. Hipsman doubled in Neff and Beal for his second hit of the frame and put Richmond up three, 7-4. Sprague-Lott hit a two-out single to push Hipsman home before scoring on Elbeery's double down the leftfield line and giving Richmond a 9-4 lead.
Rider jumped on Spider starter Kyle Subers, scoring all four of their runs in the first. Subers allowed four runs on one hit, walked five and struck out one in one and two-third of an inning of work.
Vincent Corso collected his second win of the season after tossing six scoreless innings of relief, walking one and hitting one with matching a season-high five strikeouts.
Cole Hentschel got the final out in the eighth and wrapped up the ninth for Richmond with a strikeout. He allowed one walk in his one and a third of an inning of work.
