Jaffe Home Run Spurs Five-Run Fifth for Spider Baseball Victory

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Baseball team avoided an Atlantic 10 series sweep Sunday with a 7-2 victory over Saint Joseph's at Pitt Field.
The Spiders, now 12-16 on the season and 1-2 in league play, play host to James Madison Tuesday April 4 on UR Here Giving Day with first pitch set for 2:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
Richmond starter Jeremy Neff kept the Hawks off the scoreboard for four innings, striking out four while working around three walks and one hit batter.
The Spiders broke through first in the bottom of the fourth. After leading off with a walk, Jason Neff took third on Johnny Hipsman's base hit to right. Jason Neff then scored on Jordan Jaffe's sacrifice fly to center.
The Hawks answered in the top of the fifth, plating two runs off three hits allowed by Jeremy Neff. Kyle Subers came in and struck out the first Hawk he faced to end the inning.
Mikey Kluska got the scoring started for Richmond in the bottom of the fifth when he scored on a wild pitch. Christian Beal snagged the lead for the Spiders after coming home on the third Hawks wild pitch of the inning. Jaffe then launched a three-run home run to left center, his third home run of the season and second of the weekend, putting the Spiders up 6-2.
The Spiders tacked on a run in the sixth when Chase Conklin scored on Beal's fielder's choice to the third baseman. Conklin led off the frame drawing a four-pitch walk.
Subers picked up his second win after tossing four shutout frames, scattering three hits, and collecting a season-high nine strikeouts.
