Bakhaya Named A-10 Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – For the second time this season, the University of Richmond Women's Tennis team has the honor of highlighting freshman Lara Bakhaya as the final Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office Wednesday.
Bakhaya, a London, England native, had a strong week in doubles action, helping the Spiders to a four-match win streak over two weeks with wins over Rhode Island, Davidson, William & Mary and Saint Joseph's. Against William & Mary on Apr. 16, Bakhaya, alongside Elizabeth Novak defeated Hedda Gurholt / Emma Pell [W&M] on court three, 6-4, to help the Spiders clinch the doubles point and the first win over the Tribe in program history. Against Saint Joseph's on Apr. 21, the duo defeated Ana Ocasio/ Kirsten Wijnsema [SJU] 6-1, also on court three to help lift Richmond to a 7-0 victory over the Hawks.
Bakhaya and the Women's Tennis team are set for the A-10 Championship in Orlando, Fla. The No. 4 Spiders will open the tournament against No. 13 Saint Joseph's on Thursday at 9 a.m. at the USTA National Campus.
