Spiders Take Final Midweek of the Season Over Spartans

UR (23-26) closes out the regular season hosting Davidson in Atlantic 10 Conference action beginning Thursday with first pitch set for 2 PM at Pitt Field and streamed on ESPN+.
For a fourth-straight game, the Spiders scored in the first inning. Jordan Jaffe hit a two-run blast, bringing around Jared Sprague-Lott, for his 12th home run of the season. Alden Mathes tallied the Spiders third run of the frame when he stole home as Christian Beal drew a pick-off attempt at first by the NSU pitcher.
Richmond starter Brian Reinke gave up NSU's three runs in the third inning. Reinke allowed five hits and two walks while striking out two in two and two-thirds of an inning of work. Harrison Clifton finished the third and kept the Spartans off the board in the fourth while only allowing one hit to collect the victory. Mathew Anderson tossed two scoreless frames, working around one hit, two walks and a hit batter while striking out three. Dane Armson tossed a clean seventh with a strikeout.
The Spider offense retook the lead in the bottom of the third, when Mathes scored on Jason Neff's RBI base hit to left. With the bases loaded, UR forced in a run when Mikey Kluska got hit by the pitch. Neff then tallied the Spiders third run of the frame, sliding past the tag at home on Sprague-Lott's sacrifice fly in short right field.
Mathes launched a two-run home run in the sixth to left center for his eighth home run of the season to put the Spiders up 8-3.
In the seventh, the Spiders connected five-straight walks to force in two runs for a 10-3 lead. Jaffe legged out his 20th double of the season to push two more runs home. Johnny Hipsman scored the final run of the game on a fielder's choice put in to play by Beal.
