Spiders Score Season-High 19 Runs to Take Series Over St. Bonaventure

Richmond, improving to 21-24 on the season and 10-7 league action, will take on North Carolina State (31-15, 10-13 ACC) Tuesday at Doak Field at Dail Park with first pitch set for 6 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
St. Bonaventure (8-33, 5-12 A-10) got on the score board first in the third inning with a grand slam off Richmond starter Brenden Argomaniz. Argomaniz bounced back to get out of the inning with two ground outs, but his day was complete after three innings of work. He allowed four runs on three hits with three walks and two hit batters and one strikeout.
The Richmond offense broke through in the bottom of the third. After Jordan Jaffe drew a walk, Alden Mathes launched his seventh home run of the season off the batter's eye in centerfield. Christian Beal then scored on Mikey Kluska's base hit through the infield to get the Spiders back within one.
Richmond reliever Kyle Subers took over on the mound, throwing five scoreless frames to collect his fourth victory of the season. Subers only gave up two hits and two walks while striking out four. Dane Armson tossed a scoreless ninth, working around two hit batters.
Johnny Hipsman extended his hit streak to 18-straight games with the first of his two solo home runs, number nine and ten, in the fourth to tie the game at 4-all. His second long ball of the game came in the sixth.
The Spiders bats erupted in the fifth inning, putting the game out of reach after scoring eight runs on seven hits for a 12-4 lead. Beal and Hipsman both had doubles, while Zach Lass, Jake Elbeery, Mikey Kluska and Beal picked up base hits and Jared Sprague-Lott and Jason Neff drew walks to reach the base paths.
UR put up six more runs on three hits, three walks and two hit batters in the eighth inning. Pinch-hitter Kasey Caras picked up a RBI base hit to right, while DJ Pacheco collected a two-RBI double to right center.
