Field Hockey Extends Win Streak, Collect Shutout on Road

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – University of Richmond field hockey team jumped out to a quick lead and never relinquished it, extending their win streak to three games with a 4-0 victory over Queens University of Charlotte Sunday at Bessant Field.
Richmond, now 5-3 on the season, returns to Crenshaw Field Saturday for Senior Day, hosting Saint Louis in Atlantic 10 action at noon. Prior to the start of the game, the Spider Hockey program will honor seven 2024 graduates, including Olivia De Cain, Madi Hyatt, Ella Hayes, Kaitlyn Csensits, Cori Nichols, Alexandria Lavelle, and Lily Saunders.
Madi Hyatt found Stevie Drum in front of the goal just 38 seconds into the game to put the Spiders on the board. Drum tallied her third goal of the season, while Hyatt picked up her third assist.
On the Spiders fifth penalty corner of the opening quarter, Jess McMeeking found Alexandria Lavelle at the top of the circle for the goal in the 13th minute of action. Lavelle tallied her second goal of the weekend and third goal of the season.
Richmond fired off 11 shots, with four on goal, and earned six corners in the first 15 minutes of action. The Spiders didn't let off the pressure in the second quarter.
Annie Nash found Lainey Nichols open for the Spiders third goal of the day, converting the squad's eighth penalty corner at the 27th minute.
Just under two minutes later, Avery Russell scored her second goal of the season, putting in the rebound on the Spiders ninth corner of the half.
Richmond dominated possession the whole game, taking 34 shots with 15 on goal and earning 13 penalty corners. UR held Queens to eight shots and six on goal, with just one in the second half, and five corners.
All six of Kristen Rake's saves came in the first half as she collected her second shutout of the season.
