
Spider Hockey Falls in Overtime at Penn

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Richmond field hockey team dropped the first-ever contest against Penn, 2-1 in overtime at Ellen Vageros Field Sunday afternoon.
Richmond, now 10-5 on the season, wraps up the home schedule Friday, Oct. 25, hosting nationally ranked UMass in Atlantic 10 Conference action at Crenshaw Field at 5 p.m. on ESPN-plus.
Kristen Rake had four saves in the first half, as the Quakers took seven shots and picked up three corners. The Spiders had three shots in the second quarter and one corner.
Clara Larripa put the Spiders on the board first in the 40th minute of action for her team-leading 12th goal of the season. Larripa, playing tough defense at the 23-yard line, stole the ball then dribbled it into the circle for the back-handed shot into the lower far corner of the goal.
Penn forced overtime after scoring with one second left on the game clock after a scramble in front of the goal. The Quakers were able to tally the overtime game-winner in a player-down situation in the 69th minute of the contest.
Richmond finished the game with seven shots and three corners, while Penn tallied 17 shots and nine corners. Rake finished with nine saves.
