COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Richmond field hockey dropped a 3-0 decision at No. 6 Maryland Sunday afternoon at UMD Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
Richmond, now 10-7 on the season and 4-2 in Atlantic 10 Conference action, will close out the regular season Friday, Nov. 1 against VCU at Cary Street Field at 3 p.m. on ESPN+.
Valen Luna Paratore tallied the first shot of the game just a minute into action but that was all Richmond would get on frame in the contest. The Spiders also earned a penalty corner in the first quarter.
Maryland took the lead in the 12th minute, converting on their second corner play of the quarter. The Terps took a 2-0 lead into the half after tallying a goal in the 27th minute on a penalty corner score.
Spider goalkeeper Kristen Rake collected seven of her nine saves on the day in the first half. Grace Wiggins picked up a defensive save in the 27th minute, helping clear the ball as Rake dove to save the first shot on a scramble in front of the goal.
The teams battled for possession the whole second half. The Spiders only allowed the Terps one shot on goal in the third quarter. Maryland fired off four shots in the fourth quarter with one sneaking in for the squad's third goal in the 57th minute of action.
