Spiders Run Past Gardner-Webb Behind Electrifying Education Day Crowd

RICHMOND, Va. – With every Spider putting up points in front of an Education Day crowd of 2,914, the University of Richmond women's basketball team overwhelmed the visiting Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs and picked up a 92-44 win to move to 4-0 on the year. Richmond starts the season 4-0 for the first time since 2015-16 while GWU fell to 1-3 on the year.

How it Happened
Katie Hill got the Spiders going with a layup nine seconds into the contest before GWU posted a trey to force a GWU lead. Rachel Ullstrom posted a layup to put the Spiders back ahead, sparking a 12-0 run with efforts from Maggie Doogan, Steph Ouderkirk and Anna Camden for a 14-3 advantage. Alicia Newell posted a layup with 2:13 left in the quarter while Doogan ended the frame with six points of her own for a 22-5 Spider lead heading into the second quarter.
Addie Budnik opened the second 10 minutes with a layup while Newell posted a triple to push the Richmond lead to 22, 27-5. After a couple of points from GWU, Ally Sweeney posted six points for a 35-12 Spider advantage. Newell, Doogan and Ullstrom rounded out the half with six points to send UR into the locker room leading 41-12.
Out of the break, the Spiders were able to build their lead to 34, 51-17 after outscoring GWU 10-5 to open the third frame. After exchanging points, the Runnin' Bulldogs were able to chip away at the lead to 60-39, going on a 8-0 run to end the frame.
Payton Richard opened the final 10 minutes with a trey, sparking a 11-0 run to give the Spiders a 71-30 lead. After exchanging more points, Courtney Swider and Steph Ouderkirk combined for five points for a 85-40 lead. Swider and Camden ended the game with a combined five points as the Spiders took the win 92-44.

- The Spiders posted their 23rd-straight win inside the Robins Center dating back to 2022-23.
- Every active player for the Spiders put up points in the contest as Jada Green and Payton Richard posted their first collegiate points.
- Maggie Doogan paced the team with 17 points, shooting 7-11 from the floor, 2 of 5 from deep and 1-1 from the charity stripe. Three other Spiders finished the game in double figures in Payton Richard (10), Rachel Ullstrom (15) and Ally Sweeney (12).
- Sweeney's 12 points marks a career-high while she also matched a career-high five rebounds.
- Alicia Newell also matched a career-high points with nine.
- Anna Camden posted a team-high six rebounds while Steph Ouderkirk led the team with six assists.
- As a team, the Spiders shot 35-60 (58.3%) from the floor, 14-30 (46.7%) from deep and 8-12 (66.7%) from the charity stripe. In addition, the team posted 36 rebounds, 27 assists, 14 blocks, four thefts and 30 points off 24 GWU turnovers.
- The Spiders have now outscored their opponents 326-194 to start the season.
