Richmond Holds No. 6 Texas to Season-Low Scoring in Tough 65-54 Loss at Home

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team went toe-to-toe with No. 6 Texas, dropping a hard-fought game 65-54 Sunday afternoon inside the Robins Center. With the loss, the Spiders fell to 9-2 on the season while the Longhorns improved to 10-1. The Spiders also held Texas to its lowest number of points scored this season.

How it Happened
Budnik opened the game with a triple while Texas responded on the other end with a layup. A layup from Rachel Ullstrom gave Richmond a 5-2 lead, but the Longhorns were able to claw back and take the lead following a 9-0 run, 11-5. Budnik ended the scoring drought with a layup while efforts by Anna Camden and Faith Alston cut the Spider deficit to 14-11. Texas ended the first frame on a 6-0 run for a 20-11 advantage.
Both teams opened the second quarter with a layup before a triple from UT gave the Longhorns a 25-13 lead. Maggie Doogan and Alston cut the lead back down to eight, 25-17, but Texas found more offensive rhythm and used a short 4-0 run to rebuild its lead to 29-17. After a lone free throw from Doogan, another 4-0 spurt from Texas gave the opposition a 33-18 lead, but Ullstrom ended the scoring drought with two free throws. Doogan ended the half with a triple as Richmond went into the locker room down 33-23.
Texas built a 14-point lead, 37-23, to open the third quarter before a triple from Ullstrom brought it back to 37-26. The teams then exchanged points throughout the quarter until Madison Booker posted a 6-0 run for Texas to hand UT a 51-33 lead. Ullstrom posted a triple while Texas recorded a mid-range jumper for a 53-36 lead to end the third quarter.
After a layup to open the fourth quarter from Texas, Budnik sparked a 7-0 run to scratch away at the deficit, 55-43. Doogan and Ullstrom then combined for four points to bring Richmond within 10, 57-47, but Texas was able to rebuild its lead to 65-48. The Spiders ended the game with Ullstrom sparking a 6-0 run, but it wasn't enough as the Spiders dropped the game 65-54.

- The Spiders held the Longhorns to their lowest scoring output of the season.
- Rachel Ullstrom paced the team with 20 points, marking her fourth 20-point game this season. She ended the game with six rebounds to lead the team and a block.
- Addie Budnik and Maggie Doogan also ended the game in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Budnik finished with three rebounds, an assist and two blocks, while Doogan had five rebounds, four assists and a steal.
- Katie Hill dished out a team-high five assists.
- As a team, Richmond shot 20 of 49 (40.8%) from the floor, 7 of 22 (31.8%) from deep and 7 of 10 (70%) from the charity stripe. In addition, Richmond recorded 36 rebounds, 15 assists, four blocks and four steals while forcing Texas into 11 turnovers.
