Spiders Secure 10th Win of the Season in A-10 Opener Versus Dayton

RICHMOND, Va. – Addie Budnik paved the way with 14 points and nine rebounds in the 55-37 Richmond women's basketball win over Dayton Sunday afternoon to open Atlantic 10 Conference play. With the win, the Spiders notched their 10th win of the season and improved to 10-4 overall and 1-0 in the A-10, while the Flyers fell to 6-6 on the year and 0-1 in conference action.

How it Happened
The Spiders opened the game on a 10-0 run with efforts courtesy of Budnik, Maggie Doogan, Rachel Ullstrom and Ally Sweeney before the Flyers got their first bucket of the game at the 6:09 mark. Sweeney pushed the lead back to 10 with a pull-up jumper, but the Flyers whittled away at the deficit with an 8-2 run for a 12-8 UR lead. Budnik ended the scoring drought and the quarter with a trey, 15-8, as the two teams couldn't add to the score sheet through the final three minutes.
Richmond opened the second frame with a 6-0 run for a 21-8 lead as Ullstrom and Doogan found rhythm at the rim. After a lone layup from the Flyers, Alyssa Jimenez posted a layup, sparking a 12-0 run to end the quarter with the Spiders ahead by 23, 33-10.
The Spiders struggled in the third, as the Flyers held Richmond to only six points. Dayton opened the quarter with a 7-0 run before Ally Sweeney capitalized on a triple for a 36-17 UR lead. Ullstrom then posted a triple following two points from UD, but the Flyers responded with a triple and two free throws to send UR into the final 10 minutes with a 39-24 advantage.
Dayton chipped away at the Spider lead, cutting the advantage to 12, 43-31, to open the fourth quarter. Ullstrom posted a triple and a layup to rebuild the lead to 17, 48-31, but UD kept persistent, posting four unanswered points to cut the Spider lead to 48-35. Richmond ended the game with seven straight points, while Dayton added two free throws as Richmond picked up the 55-37 conference win.

Notes on the Game
- The Spiders saw their second-lowest points allowed total at the half, holding Dayton to 10 points through 20 minutes. Richmond previously held Fairfield to seven points at the half on Nov. 12 on the road. The Spiders also finished the game with their lowest points allowed in a game this year.
- Addie Budnik posted a team-high 14 points on 5 of 12 shooting, including 3 of 8 from deep. She was just shy of a double-double with nine rebounds and also added a block to the stat sheet.
- Rachel Ullstrom and Maggie Doogan also finished in double figures, as both recorded 13 points. Doogan collected six rebounds, an assist and a steal, while Ullstrom tallied seven rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal.
- Ally Sweeney dished out four assists to lead the team.
- The Spiders shot 18 of 46 (39.1%) from the floor, 7 of 23 (30.4%) from deep and 12 of 13 (92.3%) from the free-throw line. Richmond also recorded 41 rebounds, 11 assists, three blocks, seven steals and scored 10 points off 19 Flyer turnovers.
- Richmond outrebounded Dayton 41-25, including 10 offensive boards, marking a +16 advantage on the glass.
- The all-time series against Dayton moves to 13-19 in favor of UD.
