Spider Baseball Drops Central Virginia Challenge Opener to Boston College

RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond Baseball fell to Boston College, 7-2, in Friday's Central Virginia Challenge opener at Pitt Field. The Spiders, now 3-6 on the season, will host Sacred Heart Saturday at noon for the second game of the weekend tournament at Pitt Field.
Richmond starter Kyle Roche (1-2) took the loss as the Eagles jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second. He also got tagged with three more runs in the sixth. Roche finished his five and a third of an inning outing allowing six hits with six strikeouts and two hit batters.
Down 5-0 in the seventh, Connor Larson tallied his second hit of the game to jump start the Spider offense. Aaron Whitley followed with a walk before he and Larson scored on Phil Bernstein's double down the right field line to make it 5-2.
Larson finished with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with a double, while Bernstein had two hits. Whitley reached in all five of his plate appearances, tallying two hits and three walks for the Spiders. Zach Lass tallied the Spiders eighth hit of the game in the eighth inning but was stranded.
Richmond reliever Harrison Clifton finished the sixth, picking up a strikeout and allowing a hit. Dane Armson tossed the seventh, allowing a walk with a strikeout. Ethan Sannes allowed two runs on a hit batter and a walk in the eighth. Davis Wallon got out of the eighth, working around a walk. Matthew Anderson tossed the ninth, picking up a strikeout and allowing one hit.
