Rally Falls Short for Spider Baseball Against Lafayette

RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond baseball late rally fell short Wednesday as the squad fell to Lafayette, 7-6 at Pitt Field.
Richmond, now 7-9 on the season, begins a weekend series against Cornell Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Pitt Field to close out a 19-game home stand.
DJ Pacheco got the Spiders on the board in the first with a solo home run to left field for his first of the season. With the bases loaded, RJ Rickabaugh forced in a run after getting hit by a pitch for the sixth time this season. Jake Topolski brought in two more runs with a base hit to left. Aidan O'Keefe pushed in the fifth run of the frame with a base hit of his own as all nine Richmond starters came to the plate.
Richmond starter Logan Ymker had a strong five inning outing, scattering three runs on four hits, and three walks with a career-high seven strikeouts, including three in the fourth.
Lafayette took a 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh with three runs on two hits and a hit batter. Dane Armson was tagged for two runs on one hit with two strikeouts in an inning and a third of work, but Harrison Clifton gave up the two-run home run, sandwiched between two strikeouts in his eighth appearance of the season. Clifton finished with three strikeouts.
In the bottom of the seventh, Pacheco legged out a triple to right field before trotting home on Phil Bernstein's 21st RBI of the season to tie the game at 6-all.
The Spiders had two reach, including one in scoring position, in the bottom of the eighth but were left stranded.
Cole Hentschel took the loss, allowing Lafayette's run in the top of the ninth. Hentschel tossed one and a third of an inning in his seventh relief appearance, walked one and struck out two.
