Francioli Propels Richmond to Victory Over Davidson with Historical First Career Start

Richmond, Va. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse program opened its home conference schedule on Saturday with a 15-7 victory over Davidson. Freshman Abby Francioli, the goalie from Baltimore, MD was named as a starter amongst the veteran heavy group of Richmond. Francioli did not disappoint through her performance, tallying 17 saves and only allowing 7 Davidson goals.
Richmond's offensive unit sparked action quickly in the first quarter, outscoring Davidson 7-1 heading into the second. Quarters two and three were quieter for the Spiders. The Wildcats took the advantage in quarter two (3-1) and tied Richmond (2-2) in the third, pushing the score to 10-6 as the final quarter approached. The Spiders came back strong for the last fifteen minutes of gameplay, scoring five goals compared to the Wildcats one. Through the ability of Francioli to limit Davidson goals and the offensive groups versatility, Richmond ended the day with a convincing 15-7 win over the conference opponent of Davidson. The Spiders extend their overall record to 6-2 and remain undefeated in conference play at 2-0.

These numbers are believed to be the highest in program history for a freshman goalkeeper in their first career start as a Spider. Francioli impressed many at Robins Stadium. She looks to carry this momentum through the rest of the season and grow stronger as a leader for this Richmond defensive squad.
Three Spiders scored hat-tricks through competition. Alexis Morton led the Richmond offense with a career high of 6 total points that came from 3 goals and 3 assists. Morton went 2-2 from the free position. Juliana Stanley contributed with 4 points that were earned through 3 goals and 1 assist. The Richmond scoring leader, Colleen Quinn ended her day with 3 goals, going 1-2 from the free position.
Grace Muldoon contributed to the victory with 4 points that came from 2 goals and 2 assists. Her shooting percentage rounded out to .666. Muldoon also found success on the defensive side of the ball, forcing a single caused turnover and collecting 3 draw controls.
