Spider Baseball Drops Series to High Point

HIGH POINT, NC – The Richmond baseball team fell 25-5 to High Point Saturday afternoon to drop the program's third weekend series of the season.
Richmond, now 9-13, will face High Point on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Williard Stadium on ESPN+.
The Spiders struck first with a lead-off solo blast from DJ Pacheco for his team-leading fifth home run of the season. In the top of the second, Jackson Kraemer put down a bunt single that scored Jake Topolski from third for a 2-0 lead.
After that it was all High Point offense. The Panthers put up 12 runs in the bottom of the second. Brian Reinke took the loss, allowing seven runs on six hits and two walks in an inning and a third of work. Vincent Corso got the final two outs of the second, but not before he allowed five runs on three hits, two walks, three wild pitches and one strikeout.
In the third, Topolski hit a three-run home run to make it 12-5, for this fourth home run of the season.
Ethan Sannes took over in the third on the mound. He tossed a scoreless frame and stranded two. He came back out in the fourth, quickly striking out the first two batters faced before allowing a walk, hitting a batter, and giving up five runs on three home runs.
Davis Wallon got the final out of the fourth in his ninth appearance out of the bullpen this season.
Jake Young tossed the fifth for his collegiate debut. Young allowed two runs on one hit, three walks and two wild pitches.
Matthew Anderson tossed a scoreless sixth inning, retiring all three batters faced. The HPU offense put up two runs on him in the seventh, all with two outs, on a walk and a home run. In the eighth, the Panthers put up a four spot on four hits and one error. He also struck out the final two batters in the eighth.
