Home Runs Not Enough as Spider Baseball Falls to High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Richmond scored first in the Sunday series finale, but High Point answered back each time to collect a 14-3 (8 Innings) victory and sweep the series at Williard Stadium.
Richmond, now 9-14 on the season, will take on Virginia in midweek action Tuesday at 4 PM in Charlottesville. Fans can tune in on ACC Network Plus. UR will then open Atlantic 10 Conference action hosting George Mason Friday (March 29) at Pitt Field. First pitch is set for 2 PM on ESPN+.
Jordan Jaffe doubled in DJ Pacheco in the first inning to take a quick lead. High Point answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame.
In the second inning, Aidan O'Keefe launched his second home run of the season over the left field wall. Jason Shockley hit a solo home run to straight away center field in the fourth inning for his fourth of the season.
UR starter Esteban Rodriguez went two-plus innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, four walks and one strikeout. Jackson Hinchliffe tossed three scoreless innings, walking one and striking out one to keep the Spiders close, 5-3, after five innings.
The Panthers got to reliever Dane Armson in the sixth, touching him up for six runs on three hits and three walks without recording an out. Cole Hentschel got all three outs, two via the strikeout out and walked one.
Harrison Clifton tossed a scoreless seventh in his 13th appearance of the season, working around two hits to strand them on the base path.
Jackson Kraemer took over in the eighth, getting a strikeout before HPU put up three runs, two earned, on two home runs, to end the game, 14-3.
