Spiders Unable to Fight Off No. 11/12 Dukes

Richmond, Va. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse program dropped its third loss of the season on Wednesday evening to the No. 11/12 nationally ranked James Madison squad through a night with multiple weather delays.
The Spiders were unable to match the intensity of the Dukes through the matchup as James Madison held a continuous lead. First quarter play ended in a 3-2 James Madison edge as three different Dukes found the back of the net. Quarters two and three were dominated by James Madison as well with the fourth quarter approaching with a 13-7 advantage for the visitors. At the half, the game went under a thirty-minute weather delay with inclement conditions approaching. After the extended break, both teams returned to action on the Robins Stadium turf for the third period. Another thirty-minute weather related delay was implemented with just over five minutes remaining in the game. Fourth quarter play resulted in a 5-5 tie, putting the final score at 18-12 in favor of the Dukes. After this one, overall records for both programs even out at 9-3.
Grace Muldoon and Alexis Morton took control of the Richmond offense. Muldoon contributed with 5 points from 4 goals and 1 assist, going 1-1 from the free position, 4/4 from shots on goal and an overall shooting percentage of .800. She found success on the defensive end of the field as well with 1 ground ball, 1 caused turnover and 1 draw control. Morton matched Muldoon's points with 5 total on the day from 4 goals and 1 assist. Morton shot for .666 against the Dukes.
Colleen Quinn found the back of the net twice for two Richmond scores. The Richmond scoring leader shot .666 on the evening.
Sarah Roycroft and Juliana Stanley each tallied a goal. Roycroft also contributed with 1 ground ball and 1 caused turnover. Stanley shot for 100% with her lone goal, collecting 1 draw control in the circle as well.
Becca Sturtz and Caroline Murphy fought strongly for Richmond on the defensive end of the field. Sturtz totaled 7 ground balls (game high) and 1 caused turnover. Murphy tallied 3 caused turnovers, 2 draw controls and 1 ground ball.
Abby Francioli played through all four quarters, netting 10 saves on the day for a save percentage of .357.
