Stockman Dominates Split Weekend with 3K Steeplechase Victory

Williamsburg, Va. & Coral Gables, FL - The University of Richmond track & field program had many successful finishes this weekend as the team split into separate groups, competing at the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary and the Miami Hurricane Alumni Invitational hosted by the University of Miami. Elizabeth Stockman, the four-time Atlantic 10 Track Performer of the Week led the Spiders with the first-place finish in the 3K steeplechase at the Colonial Relays.
Colonial Relays
Stockman won the 3K steeplechase at 10:32.83 in the 58th annual Colonial Relays. This was her first time ever running the event. Her mark ranks No. 2 in program history behind 2011 All-American, Nicol Traynor. Her time currently stands at No. 1 in the Atlantic 10, No. 7 in the ECAC, No. 17 in the NCAA East region and No. 36 in the NCAA nationally. Stockman continues to accept any challenge handed to her, winning races in every meet she has attended this season against some of the best competition in the country.
Nina Lavelle had a strong outing in the 200m, taking the 10th place finish with a personal best of 25.40.
Gabrielle Cummings represented Richmond well in the 400m, finishing in 4th place with a personal best of 56.74. Her mark currently ranks No. 5 in the Atlantic 10 and No. 42 in the ECAC.
Emily Rzucidlo was the frontrunner for Richmond in the 800m, taking the 4th place finish with a personal best of 2:18.64.
Laurel Kurtz found success in the 10K at 36:00.56, claiming 4th place with her new personal best.
The 4x400m relay squad of Gabrielle Cummings, Morgan Elliott, Leyla Murati and Nina Lavelle finished in 3rdplace at 3:50.59.
Nina Lavelle, Kamyah Wright, Leyla Murati and Emily Rzucidlo grouped together, taking the 3rd place finish in the 1600m sprint medley at 4:15.02.
The Richmond women finished in 9th place overall through a pool of 25 programs.
Jordan Bendura had the top performance for the men on the weekend in the 5K invitational with the 6th place finish at 14:21.05, a personal best for the senior Spider.
Miami Hurricane Alumni Invitational
Elke Van der Westhuizen competed against some of the nation's top talents in the 400m, coming out of the race in 8th place with a mark of 55.46.
Alicia Dawson ended her weekend with the 7th place mark in the triple jump (12.53m) the 11th place finish in the long jump (5.74m).
Up next, the Spiders will split once again as one group will travel to the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton and the other will head west to the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific. Both competition will span from April 12-13.
