Spider Baseball Drops Final Road Game to URI

KINGSTON, RI – The Richmond Baseball team dropped the Sunday Atlantic 10 Conference series finale, 5-2 to the Rhode Island Rams at Bill Beck Field.
Richmond, now 23-28 on the year and 12-9 in A-10 action, returns to Pitt Field to host Old Dominion for a 2 p.m. Tuesday contest on ESPN-Plus.
URI tallied single runs in the second and fourth, and two scored in the fourth for a 4-0 lead.
Spider batters got into scoring position four times before they were able to get on the board in the sixth. Phil Bernstein reached on a hit by pitch, then scored on Jack Arcamone's base hit to left center.
UR picked up their second run of the game in the seventh. Connor Larson was hit for the second time in the game then took third on Aaron Whitley's double to right. Larson scored on Bernstein's ground out to make it 4-2.
UR starter Jackson Hinchliffe (1-1) takes the loss, allowing two runs on three hits, a walk and two strikeouts over four and a third of an inning of work. Brian Reinke got the final two outs in the fifth, allowing two runs on two hits, a walk, a hit batter and one strikeout.
Chase Topolski went three innings, his longest relief outing for the Spiders, scattering one run on two hits, one hit batter and three strikeouts.
