RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond baseball team has been named the four seed in the 2024 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Tournament, the league announced Saturday afternoon.  The tournament will take place at Capital One Park in Tyson, Va., Tuesday, May 21 through Saturday, May 25.
Â
In the program's third-straight appearance in the tournament, four seed Richmond (24-30, 13-11 A-10) will face the five seed George Washington (30-24, 13-11) on Tuesday, May 21 at 11 a.m. to kick off action of the tournament.
Â
UR swept GW at Pitt Field this season (April 12-13-14), outscoring the Revolutionaries 26-12. In each game, the Spiders had a big inning to put the game out of reach. In game one of the series, an 11-8 April 12 win, UR got two of the squad's three home runs of the day in an eight-run fifth, a solo shot by Aaron Whitley and a two-run shot by Jordan Jaffee. Aidan O'Keefe hit a solo shot in the second to put UR on the board.
Â
In the second game (April 13), down 2-0 in the ninth, Richmond worked the bases loaded with two singles and a walk. Jack Arcamone tallied a pinch-hit single to score the two to tie the game. Connor Larson put down a bunt just far enough past the pitcher, who got a glove on the ball and flung the ball with his glove out of reach of his catcher as O'Keefe scored on a head-first slide to win the game.
Â
In the final game, a 12-2 April 14 victory, Esteban Rodriguez tossed five innings of one run action as the Spider offense posted a seven run fourth. With a 3-1 lead going into the fourth, Larson and Whitley got the inning going with back-to-back solo home runs. Phil Bernstein, in a double steal, stole home. DJ Pacheco scored on an O'Keefe bunt single before two scored on a RJ Rickabaugh double. He then scored on Larson base hit through the infield for the Spiders sixth hit of the frame.
