TYSONS, VA. – Richmond Baseball used an eight-run second inning to power past George Washington, 12-4, Tuesday in the opening game of the 2024 Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament at Capital One Park.

With the victory, four seed Richmond (25-30) advances to play top seed Saint Louis Wednesday with first pitch set for 11 a.m. on ESPN+ at Capital One Park. It also marks the first time since 2015 that UR has won the squad's first game of the tournament.

After Kyle Roche retired the side with two strikeouts in the first, GW posted two runs in the second on four hits for an early 2-0 lead.

Richmond bats answered in the bottom of the second, plating eight runs on five hits and four walks all on two outs. After a base hit and two walks to load the bases, Connor Larson forced in the first run when he drew a walk. Aaron Whitley then brought in two runs with a base hit to left center to give UR a 3-2 lead.

Jordan Jaffe collected an RBI with a base hit to left then scored with Whitley on Phil Bernstein base hit to push the score to 6-2. Zach Lass picked up the final two runs of the frame with a base hit through the infield to give UR an 8-2 lead.

Jack Arcamone made it 9-2 in the third inning with a solo home run to center field for his fourth home run of the season.

GW cut into UR's lead in fourth inning, scoring two runs on three hits, to make it 9-4.

Kyle Roche tossed a scoreless fifth before handing the ball to Chase Topolski for the final four innings. Roche (4-7) picked up the win, allowing four runs, three earned on nine hits, a walk and two strikeouts in five innings of work.

Topolski collected his first collegiate save after throwing four scoreless frames, scattering three hits and striking out five.

The Spiders added two more runs in the sixth on a Jaffe RBI double and Bernstein's sacrifice fly. Aidan O'Keefe collected an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the seventh for the Spiders 12-4 victory.
