Spiders Set for Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Richmond, Va. – The University of Richmond track & field program will compete at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships this weekend as George Mason is set to host the tournament May 4-5 in Fairfax, Va.

In 2023, the Spiders placed 7th in the conference with 58 points. The Spiders made a stamp on the competition in the very first individual race Sunday, taking first and second place in the 1,500m. Madison Trippett outsprinted teammate Kayla O'Connell down the final straightaway to secure gold with a time of 4:22.83. O'Connell finished second in 4:24.60, a personal best. It was Trippett's first career gold medal in the Outdoor A-10 Championship and the first individual Outdoor A-10 Championship medal for O'Connell, who won gold as part of the Richmond's 4 x 800m relay team in 2021. Richmond also medaled in the 800 meters, with Kyra Keurentjes finishing second in 2:08.71. Teammate Kate McAndrew missed out on a medal by .06 seconds, placing fourth in a season-best 2:09.06. O'Connell was fifth in 2:11.82.
Richmond is coming off of a strong weekend at the Penn Relays where the DMR squad of Elizabeth Stockman, Virginia Beringer, Caroline Donohoe and Madison Trippett made waves. The group finished at 11:03.47 for the 9th place finish, a historic mark for the Richmond program. This DMR stands on the NCAA All-Time Outdoor DMR list at No. 25. It currently ranks No. 9 in the NCAA this year as well. This group now holds the program record in the event. Virginia Beringer and Caroline Donohoe continued their success alongside Dylan Miller and Morgan Lyons in the 4x800 relay. The group took the 7th place finish as the mark stands as the No. 7 time in the NCAA this year. It moves up in the Richmond records to No. 3 all-time and is the current No. 1 mark in the Atlantic 10. Elizabeth Stockman broke another program record in Philadelphia, this time in the 1500m placing 6th. Her finish of 4:15.80 moves her up in the NCAA rankings to No. 36 in the East region and No. 50 nationally on the season. Stockman holds the No. 1 time in the Atlantic 10. Madison Trippett found success in the event as well, posting a personal best of 4:19.44. Her mark stands at No. 3 in program history. She holds the No. 2 time in the Atlantic 10.
