Spider Hockey Defeats Longwood in Overtime, 2-1

FARMVILLE, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team needed just 20 seconds into overtime to defeat Longwood, 2-1, Sunday at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field.
With the win, Richmond moves to 4-2 on the season. The Spiders open Atlantic 10 Conference action Friday, September 20 at Saint Louis with a 3 p.m. eastern matchup on ESPN-Plus.
Valen Luna Paratore tallied her third goal of the season with a backhand shot into the lower right corner of the goal to win the game.
Longwood jumped onto the scoreboard just before the end of the first quarter, scoring in the 14th minute of action.
After 40 minutes of scoreless action, Clara Larripa drove the ball through the Longwood defense and powered in her seventh goal of the season to tie the game at 1-all in the fourth quarter.
Luna Paratore got a shot on goal late in regulation to win it, but the Lancers goalkeeper made the stop.
UR goalkeeper Kristen Rake made three saves on seven shots faced. The Spiders earned nine penalty corners, five in the first quarter and four in the third quarter. UR fired off 16 shots with eight on goal, while holding Longwood to just seven shots and four on goal.
