Fitzgerald’s First Career Goal Lifts Spiders Over Duquesne in A-10 Opener

RICHMOND, Va. – Kiley Fitzgerald posted her first career goal in the 11th minute of action as the University of Richmond women's soccer team opened Atlantic 10 Conference action with a 1-0 over Duquesne Thursday afternoon at home. With the win, the Spiders improved to 3-3-2 and 1-0 in A-10 play while the Dukes fell to 6-2 and 0-1 in conference.

How it Happened
The Spiders started the game on the offensive front as Emma Coleman posted a shot on frame in the third minute. After weathering two dangerous looks from the opposition, Fitzgerald was able to capitalize on a rebound shot from Brigitte Bussiere to put Richmond ahead 1-0. Duquesne would hold the Spiders to only one more shot in the half as Marisa Snee had a look in the 39th minute, but was wide left.
In the second half, McKenna Dalfonso posted two back-to-back saves to preserve the clean sheet. Snee would have another look in the 67th minute, but would be denied by the woodwork. Anna Garcia followed Snee's offensive prowl with a shot of her own, but was saved by the Duquesne keeper. The opposition would have two more looks in the half, but weren't able to capitalize as Richmond took the A-10 opener 1-0 over the Dukes.
