Spiders Snap Wildcats’ Streak, Budnik and Doogan Climb All-Time Scoring List

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Maggie Doogan posted her 16th-straight game in double figures as the University of Richmond women's basketball team defeated Davidson on the road Sunday afternoon, 63-41, to move to 13-5 on the year and 4-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference, while the Wildcats fell to 9-8 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

How it Happened
Davidson opened the game with a layup before Addie Budnik responded with one of her own on the other end, sparking a 6-0 run with efforts courtesy of Maggie Doogan and Katie Hill. The Wildcats scratched back with a trey to cut the lead to one, 6-5, but Ally Sweeney continued the offensive threat with a trey to rebuild a four-point lead, 9-5. The Wildcats then recorded a layup and a triple to take the lead at 10-9, but Doogan put the Spiders right back ahead with two free throws for an 11-10 advantage. Davidson responded with two of its own free throws before a triple from Ullstrom gave Richmond a 16-12 advantage. After another layup from the opposition, Budnik sparked another 5-0 run for the Spiders for a 21-14 advantage. The Wildcats got one final layup off with 20 seconds left as UR ended the first 10 minutes with a 21-16 lead.
Davidson again got the scoring going to open the second quarter with two free throws before Doogan posted a layup to preserve the lead, 23-18. Sweeney followed the play with a lone free throw, which sparked a 9-0 run for Richmond to push its lead to 32-18. The Wildcats ended the scoring drought with a layup for a 12-point deficit, but a 6-0 run for the Spiders ended the half with UR in the lead, 38-20.
The Wildcats opened the third quarter with a layup before Doogan got things going with a pair of free throws. The two teams then exchanged points until a layup from Doogan sparked a short 4-0 spurt for the Spiders to jump out to 50-30. The Wildcats then posted a lone free throw before Ullstrom and Doogan ended the quarter with a triple and layup, respectively, to go into the final 10 minutes with a 55-33 advantage after a Davidson trey.
Ullstrom opened the final quarter with four points for a 59-33 advantage before Davidson posted its first points of the frame with 8:13 left in the game off a lone free throw. Ullstrom then responded with a triple on the other end, courtesy of Sweeney. The Wildcats managed a short 5-0 spurt before Jada Green posted her first collegiate free throw with 32 seconds left. After two free throws from the Wildcats, the Spiders held the ball for the final seconds for the 63-41 win.

Notes on the Game
- Maggie Doogan led the team with 26 points and moved into Richmond's top 20 leading scorers. She passed Johanna McKnight (1,106 points) and Saona Chapman (1,100 points) to claim the No. 20 spot on the all-time scoring list with 1,121 career points. Doogan was just shy of a double-double with a team-high seven rebounds and added two assists and one steal to her stat line.
- Addie Budnik posted seven points in the contest and moved to No. 5 on the all-time scoring list with 1,719 career points. She surpassed Janelle Hubbard (1,717 points) following the game.
- Rachel Ullstrom was the second Spider in double figures, recording 17 points. She ended the game with five boards and one steal.
- As a team, the Spiders shot 22-of-50 (44%) from the floor, 6-of-13 (46.2%) from 3-point range, and 13-of-15 (86.7%) from the free-throw line. In addition, Richmond recorded 35 rebounds, nine assists and six steals while scoring 10 points off 13 Wildcat turnovers.
- The Spiders outscored Davidson 38-20 in the first half.
- Richmond snapped Davidson's six-game win streak and handed the Wildcats their first A-10 conference loss.
