NORFOLK, Va. – Claire Le Du and Lainey O'Neil picked up the lone doubles win on court No. 2. as the University of Richmond women's tennis team opened its spring campaign with a tough 7-0 loss at Old Dominion Friday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. Richmond fell to 0-1 to open the 2025 slate while ODU improved to 1-0.

How it Happened
Richmond battled through doubles action with the duo of Claire Le Du and Lainey O'Neil earning a dominant 6-1 win over Matasova/Romanova (ODU) on court two. Despite the win, Old Dominion claimed the doubles point after victories on courts one and three.

Johnson/Rasskouskaia (ODU) defeated Richmond's No. 105-ranked Sofia Barbulescu and Elizabeth Novak 6-0 on court one, while Lara Bakhaya and Abby Lee dropped a hard-fought 6-4 match against Markina/Matushkina (ODU) on court three.

In singles competition, Old Dominion's depth proved to be the difference, with victories on all six courts. On court one, Barbulescu battled No. 7 Johnson (ODU), but dropped the match 6-2, 6-3. Lee fell to Matushkina (ODU) on court two, 6-0, 6-4 while Bakhaya dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to on court three to Rasskouskaia (ODU). Novak and Le Du fought hard on courts four and five but fell to Romanova (ODU) (6-1, 6-0) and Markina (ODU) (7-5, 6-2), respectively. On court six, O'Neil pushed Isaacs (ODU) to a tiebreaker set but fell short, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 1-0.
