
Sweeney’s Career-High 19 Points Fuels Spiders’ Rout of Ramblers

CHICAGO – Behind a career-high 19 points from Ally Sweeney, and four other Spiders finishing in double figures, the University of Richmond women's basketball team picked up an 85-45 road win over Loyola Chicago Thursday evening to move to 16-5 overall and 7-1 in Atlantic 10 Conference play while the Ramblers fell to 11-9 and 3-6 in the A-10.

How it Happened
Katie Hill scored the first layup after a pair of turnovers for each team opened the game. The Ramblers tied the game at two before Maggie Doogan posted back-to-back buckets for a 6-2 Spider advantage. LUC then managed to net a triple to cut the lead to one, 6-5, but Addie Budnik recorded a layup, sparking an 11-0 run to build a 12-point lead, 17-5. The Ramblers then recorded their last three points of the quarter off a trey as Budnik and Sweeney combined for back-to-back triples to end the first 10 minutes with a 23-8 UR lead.
Steph Ouderkirk opened the second frame with a triple before the Ramblers immediately responded on the other end with a layup. Budnik and Doogan then combined for five points for a 31-10 Richmond lead, but back-to-back three-pointers from the opposition cut the Richmond lead to 15, 31-16. Sam Dewey got the Spiders back on the scoring track with a layup, while Faith Alston followed the play with a trey after a LUC layup to give the Spiders a 36-18 advantage. Dewey then got another two points before a 4-0 spurt from the Ramblers kept LUC within 16, 38-22. Ullstrom posted five points while the Ramblers managed a lone layup to send Richmond into the locker room with a 43-24 lead.
Both teams held each other scoreless for the first minute and a half until a triple from the Ramblers cut Richmond's lead to 43-27. Ullstrom responded on the other end with a trey of her own, but LUC scratched back and cut the lead to 15, 46-31. Budnik ended the scoring drought with a layup, while Doogan followed the play with a mid-range jumper to rebuild the lead to 19, 50-31. A 5-0 run from the opposition would cut the deficit down to 14, 50-36, but Alston posted a trey for a 53-36 Richmond lead. LUC posted a final layup while Doogan ended the quarter with a triple on the other end to send Richmond into the final 10 minutes ahead 56-38.
Sweeney opened the final 10 minutes with a triple, but the opposition immediately responded with a layup on the other end, 59-40. Ullstrom then recorded a trey, sparking an 11-0 run with efforts courtesy of Sweeney and Budnik to push the lead to 32, 72-40. After a lone layup from the Ramblers, they only managed to get off a layup and a triple the remainder of the quarter as Sweeney sparked a 13-0 run featuring three back-to-back treys from Sweeney, Doogan and Alston and a layup from Dewey to hand the Spiders the 85-45 win.
Notes on the Game
· The Spiders were paced by Sweeney, who recorded a career-high 19 points on six of seven from the floor, five of six from deep and a perfect two of two from the free-throw line. She finished the game with four rebounds, a team-high seven assists and two blocks.
· Four other Spiders ended the game in double figures in Addie Budnik (14 pts), Rachel Ullstrom (14 pts), Maggie Doogan (14 pts) and Faith Alston (11 pts).
· Richmond moves its all-time record against the Ramblers to 4-0.
· Doogan paced the team with seven rebounds in addition to picking up five assists, three steals and a block. Budnik ended the game with five boards, three dimes, two blocks and two steals while Ullstrom added three rebounds and Alston also finished with three rebounds, two assists and a block.
· As a team, the Spiders shot 32 of 52 (61.5%) from the floor, 17 of 29 (58.6%) from deep and four of six (66.7%) from the free-throw line. In addition, Richmond added 33 rebounds, 30 assists, six blocks, 11 thefts and 14 points off 20 LUC turnovers. The Spider bench stayed active in the game, posting 20 points in the contest.
· Richmond pushed its win streak to six straight games.

Richmond continues its road swing on Sunday, taking on Dayton for the second time this season at 1 p.m. The Spiders will then return to the Robins Center on Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. for the only regular season matchup with Rhode Island.
