JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Sophomore Maya Beasley played her third consecutive round at par or better Tuesday to finish the 54-hole Sea Best Invitational at 2-under par, tied for seventh among the 81 golfers in the event. Beasley's score in UR's first event of the spring matched the lowest of her career and equaled the fourth-lowest tournament score in program history.
"It felt great to be back out there and honestly I had no expectations so it was nice to play well," said Beasley.
Beasley's even-par 72 Tuesday came after a pair of 1-under 71s in Rounds 1 and 2 Monday at San Jose Country Club. She matched her 2-under performance at last year's UNCG Fall Invitational and Rory Weinfurther's 2-under at the 2024 RiverTowne Invitational for the fourth-lowest tournament score in the UR record book.
As a team, the Spiders finished the tournament with a score of 29-over par (893) to place ninth in the 15-team event. It marked UR's lowest team tournament score this season, 11 strokes better than its 40-over par at last October's Lady Blue Hen Invitational.
"I'm really proud of this team. We haven't played a competitive round in a long time so I feel like we all embraced it really well," said Beasley.
Junior Olivia Wilkie shot a 2-over 74 Tuesday to finish the event tied for 35th at 8-over par for her best score and result this season. Junior Hannah Lydic was three shots back in a tie for 46th at 11-over par.
Freshman Katie Magner tied for 56th at 15-over par, her lowest 54-hole score this season. Freshman Caroline Thompson tied for 64th at 19-over par.
Competing as an individual, senior Lauren Jones tied for 61st at 18-over par.
Richmond will return to action at the RiverTowne Invitational in Charleston, S.C. on February 17-18. UR won last year's event with a team score of 5-over par (869), the best team tournament score in program history.
