Rrapi’s Heroics Help Richmond Earn Road Draw at Loyola Chicago
10/12/2025 | Women's Soccer
CHICAGO – Behind a stellar performance from Spider keeper Veronica Rrapi, the University of Richmond women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw Sunday afternoon at Loyola Chicago. With the result, the Spiders move to 3-6-5 overall and 0-4-2 in Atlantic 10 Conference play, while the Ramblers sit at 7-3-4, 2-2-2 in league action.
How It Happened
Loyola Chicago generated early pressure with eight first-half shots, but Rrapi came up big on multiple occasions to keep the match scoreless. The sophomore turned away a point-blank attempt from Meghan Economos in the 19th minute and denied Emily Rossi moments later to send the teams into halftime even. Richmond's best look of the opening frame came from Anna Garcia, who forced a save from LUC in the 40th minute after getting free in the middle of the pitch.
The Spiders nearly struck first in the 66th minute when Paige West earned and took Richmond's first penalty kick of the season. Her low drive toward the right post was punched away by Rambler keeper Allison Deardorff to keep the match at a deadlock. Richmond continued to push forward, earning a corner kick moments later and testing Loyola's backline through sustained possession in the attacking third.
Rrapi continued to anchor the Spider defense down the stretch, making key second-half saves on close-range efforts from Abby Sudkamp and Jadyn Harris to preserve her fifth shutout of the season. The Ramblers finished with 21 shots, but Richmond's back line, led by Erika Schneider and Gwen Howell, limited Loyola's quality looks in front of goal and held firm to secure the road point.
Notes on the Game
Richmond will be back in action Thursday, Oct. 16, at crosstown rival VCU for a 7 p.m. kickoff before returning home to President's Field to host George Washington on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 4 p.m.
