Spider Field Hockey Falls to American

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team's four game win streak was snapped by American University, 4-2, Sunday afternoon at Crenshaw Field.
Richmond, now 9-6 on the season, will stay in non-conference action and head south to face No. 2 North Carolina Friday, Oct. 24 at Karen Shelton Stadium for a 5 p.m. contest. The game will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
American took a quick 2-0 lead in the first quarter, scoring in the 5th and 6th minute of action.
Richmond got on the board in the 17th minute when Jess McMeeking put in the rebound from Valen Luna Paratore's shot off the keeper's pads to make it 2-1. McMeeking has two goals on the season.
AU tallied a third quarter goal of a penalty corner play to make it 3-1.
Richmond earned four penalty corners in the fourth quarter. In the 53rd minute of action, Lainey Nichols found the back of the net after Lillian Buckwalter stick stopped an insert from Alexa Derr. Nichols collected her fifth goal of the season while Derr tallied her eighth assist and Buckwalter her second helper.
Amy Stripling got the opportunity for a penalty stroke attempt in the fourth quarter, but American's goalkeeper made the save.
American added a fourth goal after Richmond pulled the goalkeeper in the 56th minute. Spider goalkeeper Amanda Cimillo finished the game with six saves.
