Spiders Avoid Shutout Against No. 1 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, NC – The University of Richmond field hockey team fell 6-1 to No. 1 North Carolina Friday evening at Karen Shelton Stadium in the program's first meeting since 2004.
Richmond, now 9-7 on the year, will return to Richmond to celebrate Senior Day on Sunday, Oct. 26, hosting William & Mary (1-13) for a 4 p.m. contest at Crenshaw Field. The game will be streamed stateside on ESPN+ and internationally on the Atlantic 10 Network.
In a tale of two halves, Richmond was able to turn the page after halftime. In the second half, UR was even on shots (8-8) while having the upper hand in penalty corners (3-2) all in the fourth quarter.
Valen Luna Paratore broke up the shutout in the 52nd minute. Clara Larripa stole the ball and drove through multiple defenders to find Luna Paratore in front of the goalkeeper for her fourth goal of the season. Larripa tallied her seventh helper.
Luna Paratore's goal was first time since 2000 that the Spiders scored on the Tar Heels.
UR goalkeeper Amanda Cimillo faced 13 shots and made seven saves.
UNC took a 5-0 lead into halftime, holding possession for most of the half. The Tar Heels fired off 15 shots and collected five penalty corners while not allowing UR a shot or corner.
