Bussiere’s Second-Half Equalizer Lifts Spiders to 1-1 Draw Against George Washington

RICHMOND, Va. — The University of Richmond women's soccer team battled back from an early deficit as Brigitte Bussiere found the back of the net in the 48th minute to secure a 1-1 draw at home Sunday afternoon against George Washington. With the result, Richmond moved to 3-7-6 overall and 0-5-3 in Atlantic 10 Conference play, while the Revolutionaries stand at 4-8-4 overall and 1-6-1 in league action, while the Revolutionaries stand at 4-8-4 on the year and 1-6-1 in league play.

How It Happened
George Washington applied early pressure with three corners in the opening 11 minutes and forced a key save from Spider keeper Veronica Rrapi in the ninth minute. The visitors broke through in the 22nd minute when Kate McGrath finished inside the box off a setup from Kalia Kau.
Richmond grew into the match before the break. Marisa Snee tested Jasmine Black in the 37th minute, then the Spiders earned a corner that generated looks from Logan Jackson and Anna Garcia to close the half.
The Spiders leveled shortly after halftime as Brigitte Bussiere converted on a corner kick from Anna Garcia in the 49th minute to bring Richmond even. McGrath answered with two quick attempts, one blocked and one over the goal, but the Spiders steadied and earned two more corners in the 67th minute to sustain momentum.
Both sides created late chances, with Rrapi denying a low shot from McGrath in the 87th minute and Emma Newman forcing a save in the 90th to preserve the 1-1 result.
Notes on the Game
Richmond will look to wrap up the season this week as the Spiders travel to Saint Joseph's on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. before hosting St. Bonaventure in the regular-season finale on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 1:30 p.m. at President's Field.
